Hmm..

my laptop is being weird. I think it might be dying.

Yesterday I plugged it in and only in certain angles did it actually "charge"/run on AC. The screen would flicker bright to dim and the icon would appear and disappear in the systray.

Today I can't get the icon to disappear from the systray. It says it has 26% life left, but the remaining time is 1729:32 hours. (That's some battery!)

Hmm.. is this a battery problem or a cable problem?

*sigh* I guess I'm rather lucky I don't need the laptop very often but I really, REALLY don't need anything breaking right now.

EDIT:
Hmm.. when I unplug the cord and wait a minute, it says my remaining time is 39 minutes. Plugging the cord back in shoots it way back up.

Seems a battery problem. The cord is working, the battery just isn't "charging"

I just bought this batter back in December!

That professor who emailed us all back and said, "Oops, I guess I shouldn't have copied the tests from another professor. I'll start making the tests from now on."

yeah, that one. Remember?

I just took the next test (this is the last weekend before assignments are due. I was giving her time to pull her head out of her rear end.)

I'm completely convinced I'd stump her if I asked her to describe the cover of the textbook.

Taking a page from [info]mrguillo, I signed up over at www.lang-8.com

It's a very cool website where you learn other languages by having native speakers of that language correct your entries (that you write in that language). The flip side is that you edit entries of other people who are trying to learn your native language.

Sounds pretty neat, I hope it works well! I signed up to learn German and Irish.

Speaking as someone who has not read the True Blood novels (I need to remedy that)

Wouldn't it be great if Lafayette was bitten by a werewolf?

He and Sam could go running through the forest together and you'd know which is which because Lafayette's toenails would be a precious plum color!

I can't wait for it to come back on!

*looks at final Harry Potter book* Some day I'll get the desire to read you.

Current Mood: weird

So I had an idea this morning on the way to work.

When my cousins and I were little my grandmother was in to making pottery and stuff. Well, one of the things she made for us all were these ceramic angel ornaments.

I'd really love it if I could use mine (one of my most cherished posessions) to cast a mold and then either make them myself for all the new generation or have my grandmother do those as well.

Do any of you have ideas on how I could do this? I'm sure I could use google-fu but I'm not sure of what the technique might be called or what materials might work best (like.. a latex mold? or ?)

I don't think I'm gonna turn this into a big entry, but I wanted to mark some thoughts I've had in the past few days.

I need to shut up.

Huh, music really does tame the savage beast.

and p.s. - I have one final fekakta (how do you spell that?) paper to turn in for Sociology today to be completely where I need to be academically. I've also itemized 20 points of concern with my sociology teacher. I'm going to call her in the hopes of setting up a tete-a-tete Tuesday before my programming class.

Hmm..

So I volunteered to help one of Dave's co-workers with their wireless internet.

From what he says, the wireless network will work (i.e. broadcast an ssid and connect and be all happy-shiny) for a little while, but then drops off. He's tried two different modems, three routers and different network cards as well as different OSes.

*scratches head*

hmmm..

signs point to an error in the set up or a virus perhaps?

This will be interesting!

oh, ps - one more short interjection akin to my sticking up for the Veep the other day.

DO NOT MESS WITH CRAIGSLIST you idiot lawmakers.

Protecting children is one thing, but when you grow up if you haven't figured out how to value and protect your life - that's your fault.

SERIOUSLY the very last thing this country needs is more laws to protect stupid people.

Of course, we're the ones who elect these wunderkind. They've figured out that the more stupid people they keep around the easier it is for them to get re-elected. If you save the ones that don't pay attention for themselves, "hey! we can vote ourselves a pay raise!"

O Great Oracles of LiveJournal.

What's the word I'm looking for here?

"Through the acceptance of women's rights and the changing societal views of the relationship between men and women (and especially that of married couples) it became increasingly unacceptable for men to treat women as property they felt they could abuse without ________"

I thought the word I wanted to use there was remuneration but now I'm not so sure.

Thoughts?

Joe Biden's comment about avoiding cramped public spaces made perfect sense (as opposed to the hysteria the media is whipping up).

Dammit people, why are you so resistant to thinking for yourselves?

Are there any names that automatically trigger a song to play in your head?

For example, Renee starts playing "Don't walk away Renee" or Georgia starts up Ray Charles "Georgia on my Mind"

For me I'll get those two and also:
Joanna - Toto
Amanda - Boston

It's 5:35am in Las Vegas and I'm fairly awake. Dave's gone back to sleep and I'll probably try to join him soon.

We were able to arrive in Las Vegas about 12 hours ahead of schedule. (We both ended up taking yesterday off so no sense in waiting around!)

The woman behind the counter LOVED Dave so she gave us an upgrade to our room at a significantly discounted rate. The room is almost as big as the condo. I plan on doing a walk-through and posting it to youtube.

After we got situated in the room we went back downstairs to find somewhere to lunch and saw a big crowd of people standing around. We ended up eating at the buffet here (it was pretty good, well-priced) and on the way back we found out what the crowd was for. Criss Angel (who has a show in conjunction with Cirque du Soleil) was taping a segment for his E! True Hollywood Story. When that comes on, watch one of the "outtro" to commercial segments and you might see Dave and I in the background!

We had a few daiquiris and walked to the 1/2 price ticket counter. Nothing for yesterday really blew our socks off so we'll take another look at what they have for today later this morning. We continued walking down past the Bellagio and made a big circuit back to the Luxor.

Dave hasn't been here since 1994 or so, so a lot of stuff is new. I've stuck to things I know I like so I haven't gone in to a lot of places. It's fun for both of us since we have things to explore together. The only thing I was disappointed from was .. at one time in the Bellagio there was an indoor balcony overlooking some seating? I think it was. There was Chihuly style glass baubles hanging from the ceiling and it was very pretty. I couldn't find that and as I remember, there was also glass in the main entryway but it wasn't there either. I guess they changed it up a bit.

OH! On the way back to the hotel we ended up walking by a place called Minus 5. It's an ICE BAR! The glasses, the bar itself, EVERYTHING is made of ice and it's minus 5 degrees Celsius in the place! Doesn't that sound FANTASTIC!!!?? Ok, well to me it does. We might go there but Dave said he'd probably want to leave after 10 or 15 minutes LOL That's only 23 degrees Fahrenheit! wuss!

The only real bummer so far for me is that my knee decided to go wonky on me. It's not swollen but twisting it around can be ..interesting. It's one of those situations where with every step you're not sure if it's going to give out on you or not. I hope it gets better. What's especially aggravating is that it didn't even decide to be this way until AFTER the walk while I was just lying on the bed! Ice didn't seem to help much so I'll see what Ibuprofen does.

No idea what we'll do today but we've discussed:

Amazing Jonathan
Ka (Dave would really like to see this)
Phantom of the Opera (I've never seen it)

And I think I'm going to take Dave down to the Freemont Street experience tonight (if we're not at a show) (and if I get a nap at some point today!)

Sorry for the short little posts, but...

What was the last CD you knew all the words to?

Driving in the car yesterday I realized I only know singles much any more and even on those I flub the words during certain phrases. I remembered to ask this just now because I'm watching the video for "Call Me When You're Sober" from Evanescence. I think that was the last CD (their first one, not this one). She's got the kind of voice I like to sing along to so I think I'm gonna buy that album and see if it catches me like the first one did.

But yeah, What's the last whole CD (or, let's say at least 75%) you knew all the words to?

(also on a totally unrelated note I'm looking forward to both Harper's Island and Krod Mandoon (sp?) Thursday night. I think I'll watch Harper's Island because the Comedy Central one will air several times I'd wager)
